As the girl screamed, the motorcyclist, simply called Joseph also raised an alarm which attracted passersby.

Ungrateful Driver Buster On Wedding Day For Kidnap Plot

Friday, February 25 was to be his glorious day. It would have been his day of joy and fulfilment, the day he was to get married to his beautiful fiancée. But that isn’t going to happen, unfortunately. At least, not for now.
Ademola Waheed is currently in police custody in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital after allegedly attempting to kidnap his boss and benefactor, Madam Maria Ademokoya for the princely sum of N6million.

Daily Sun learnt that the 32-year-old driver was, until his arrest, preparing for his wedding. Invitation cards had been printed and distributed to guests even as Waheed and his family members were said to have vowed to make the Islamic wedding, Nikkah, the talk of the town.

The young man had served as driver to Madam Ademokoya for over three years, earning a monthly salary of N20, 000. Those close to the family said mama, as the woman is fondly called, had taken Waheed as her own son. The driver too had reportedly been well behaved, until he started making attempts to kidnap his boss.
The reporter learnt that Waheed started showing his other side on Sunday, February 6 when he, using another mobile line, sent the first of several threat text messages to mama, threatening to kidnap her if she failed to release the sum of N6million to him.
His message, as seen by our reporter, reads:

I get your message what we need is five million naira cash if u try us u will see it. Text back.

He was said to have sent six different text messages to threaten his boss to release money. He later switched his attention to mama’s daughter. He also reduced his demand to N1million. A message sent to the lady reads:

U are try us 2much bck u love ur grandma give us N1m. dis is last discous 4u pls dnt distop me again.

But the lady didn’t just ignore the threat. She quickly rushed to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Peter Gana, and reported the incident. The police boss subsequently handed over the matter to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

Officer in charge of SARS, Mr. Gbenga Ojo said immediately the case was handed over to his team, they all played along with Waheed.
He explained that the first time they tracked him down was when Waheed was told to come and collect the money. But he apparently grew suspicious and ran away. The suspect later called Kunle, one of mama’s sons, and told him he fled when he saw policemen.

The SARS boss said mama’s daughter later made another arrangement with Waheed. And on Tuesday, February 15, Waheed surfaced as scheduled at the arranged place by the General Post Office around 7.30pm. He reportedly came on a commercial motorbike fully ready to collect a ransom of N500, 000. As soon as he slowed down to pick up the cash, a policeman grabbed him and he fell with the bike. That was when Ojo and his men seized the suspect.
Waheed who is now cooling his heels at the SARS office in Ilorin said it was the devil that pushed him into the dirty deal.
“My kidnapping operation is a one man show,” he confessed. “I was the one who wanted to kidnap my boss, Mama Maria Ademokoya and I demanded the sum of N5m.”

He said he was preparing for his wedding slated for this Friday in Ilorin, adding that his boss had already given him a bag of rice and that she had promised to provide further assistance towards the success of the wedding. He regretted that greed and the devil pushed him to attempt to kidnap his boss in order to get more money.

Asked what he needed the money for, he said: “I wanted to use the money for my wedding as I have owed some people, especially my friends,” he said.
He said further: “I have been threatening my boss. When she didn’t send the money I demanded, I decided to send threat text messages to madam’s three children, her son in Abuja and her two daughters in Ilorin.

“Mama’s daughter, not knowing that I was behind the whole thing, called me to drive mama to her house because some people wanted to kidnap mama. When I got there, I started crying. She told me that I should not tell anybody that mama was in her place. She said we should tell anybody who asked about mama that she was in Abuja.”

He said he later sent a text message to the lady. The message reads: U think we dnt no where your grandma is. I tell you dat ur grama is in ur house for now to know dat our investigation is correct. If u like coprate u dnt lik dnt coprate dis is last test to u.
Waheed said mama’s daughter started negotiating with him and that he told her where he would collect the money.
“I also demanded N50, 000 for my hotel bill. It was around 7.30 pm on February 15, as I was about collecting the money on a bike that the policeman grabbed me. They also pulled down the okada and I was arrested.”

Waheed, who hails from Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, said his parents had visited the SARS office seeking help for his release and pardon. “They have also pleaded with my boss to forgive me to enable me attend my wedding on Friday,” he said.
The victim, Mama Ademokoya said it was a great shock when he discovered that it was her driver who was behind the threat. She said she had been treating her like a son and was surprised that he could behave in such a way.

In an interview with Daily Sun, Waheed’s father said: “I don’t know what to say. We are fully prepared for my son’s wedding and we were shocked to hear that he was arrested for kidnapping. My son has confessed to us and we saw all the text messages he sent to her boss. But we are pleading with the police and madam to see if he can be released for the wedding. We are really ashamed of his behaviour.”

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Peter Gana said he instructed the family of the victim to play along with the suspect when mama’s daughter came to report the incident. He said his men were able to arrest the suspect as he came to collect the money.
The police boss said he was shocked that it was the driver who was trying to kidnap her boss. “He confessed to us and we are ready to charge him to court, even though he is preparing for his wedding scheduled for Friday in Ilorin,” the commissioner said.

He warned Kwara residents to be vigilant even as he cautioned them against trusting anybody.

Christchurch New Zealand hit by major earthquake

A powerful earthquake has struck the southern New Zealand city of Christchurch collapsing buildings, burying vehicles under debris and sending rescuers scrambling to help trapped people amid reports of multiple deaths.

The 6.3-magnitude quake struck the country's second-largest city on a busy weekday afternoon.

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker declared a state of emergency and ordered people to evacuate the city centre.
"Make no mistake this is going to be a very black day for this shaken city," he said.

Victims were said to have been among two buses that were struck by falling buildings, while emergency workers were moving to rescue survivors trapped in partially collapsed buildings in locations around the country's second largest city.

The multistory Pyne Gould Guinness Building, housing more than 200 workers, has collapsed and an unknown number of people are trapped inside. Television pictures showed rescuers, many of them office workers, dragging severely injured people from the rubble.

New Zealand's TV3 said 24 people were trapped on the 17th floor of the 19-story Forsyth Barr office building, near the cathedral. The building was intact but a stairwell had collapsed, it said.

The city's emblematic cathedral was one of the buildings that took significant damage, while cars were buried under rubble and roads buckled as the tremor opened fissures in the ground.

"It is huge. We just don't know if there are people under this rubble," a priest standing outside the rubble of a damaged cathedral told New Zealand television.

All airports and airspace in the country were shut down and all flights into, out of and around the country were put on hold immediately after the earthquake.

Airways NZ, New Zealand's national Air Traffic Control organisation, is based in Christchurch.

Local TV showed bodies being pulled out of rubble strewn around the city centre, though it was unclear whether any of them were alive.

It was the second time in five months the city has been struck by a major earthquake. The epicentre of last September's earthquake was 30 miles west of Christchurch. About 100 people were treated at hospital with earthquake-related injuries on that occasion.

Power and water was cut and hundreds of dazed, screaming and crying residents wandered through the streets as sirens blared throughout Christchurch in the aftermath of the quake, which was centred three miles from the city.

The US Geological Survey said the tremor occurred at a depth of 2.5 miles. Christchurch has been hit by hundreds of aftershocks since a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck on 4 September last year, causing extensive damage and a handful of injuries, but no deaths. New Zealand, which sits between the Pacific and Indo-Australian plates, records on average more than 14,000 earthquakes a year, of which about 20 would normally top magnitude 5.0.

Christchurch is home to about 350,000 people and is considered a tourist centre and gateway to the South Island.

Meet The World's Biggest Family.

Ziona Chana lives with all of them in a 100-room mansion

    * His wives take it in turns to share his bed
    * It takes 30 whole chickens just to make dinner

He is head of the world's biggest family - and says he is 'blessed'  to have his 39 wives.

Ziona Chana also has 94 children, 14-daughters-in-law and 33 grandchildren.

They live in a 100-room, four storey house set amidst the hills of Baktwang village in the Indian state of Mizoram, where the wives sleep in giant communal dormitories.

Mr Chana told the Sun: 'Today I feel like God's special child. He's given me so many people to look after.

'I consider myself a lucky man to be the husband of 39 women and head of the world's largest family.'

The family is organised with almost military discipline, with the oldest wife Zathiangi organising her fellow partners to perform household chores such as cleaning, washing and preparing meals.

One evening meal can see them pluck 30 chickens, peel 132lb of potatoes and boil up to 220lb of rice.

Coincidentally, Mr Chana is also head of a sect that allows members to take as many wives as he wants.

He even married ten women in one year, when he was at his most prolific, and enjoys his own double bed while his wives have to make do with communal dormitories.

He keeps the youngest women near to his bedroom with the older members of the family sleeping further away - and there is a rotation system for who visits Mr Chana's bedroom.

Rinkmini, one of Mr Chana's wives who is 35 years old, said: 'We stay around him as he is the most important person in the house. He is the most handsome person in the village.

She says Mr Chana noticed her on a morning walk in the village 18 years ago and wrote her a letter asking for her hand in marriage.

Another of his wives, Huntharnghanki, said the entire family gets along well. The family system is reportedly based on 'mutual love and respect'

And Mr Chana, whose religious sect has 4,00 members, says he has not stopped looking for new wives.

'To expand my sect, I am willing to go even to the U.S. to marry,' he said.

One of his sons insisted that Mr Chana, whose grandfather also had many wives, marries the poor women from the village so he can look after them.

Nigerian Soldier Batters, Rapes 23 Years Old Girl At Graveyard

Miss Jane Adams, a 23-year-old student of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) is crying for justice. She is seeking help after a soldier serving at Bonny Camp, Lagos allegedly abducted and raped her at a dreaded cemetery within the Ojo Military Cantonment in Lagos.

The victim, who hails from Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, alleged that Lance Corporal Akparuku Clever, in the night of Saturday, January 22, abducted her in his danfo bus, marked LAGOS XY 230 EKY, and forcefully took her to a graveyard inside the Ojo Military Cantonment. There, she recalled, he allegedly pulled a dagger, threatened to injure or kill her and then raped her. It was during her intense struggle with him that she suffered a serious injury on her left eye, she said.

Aside from the alleged rape, Jane also accused the soldier of other diabolical intentions, saying he attempted to insert a charmed ring inside her private part.

In an interview with Daily Sun, the victim who still nurses the gruesome wounds allegedly inflicted on her by the soldier, described the incident as the worst experience of her life.
Narrating her ordeal, she said some hoodlums at Boundary area of Apapa had snatched her handbag while she was returning from work the previous day. But unknown to her, the loss of her bag was just a harbinger of some evil that was waiting to happen.

The lady worked with Halogen Security firm from where she was deployed to Oando Oil, Apapa terminal 2. It was on her way home after the day’s work that some hoodlums, popularly known as ‘Area Boys’ in Lagos, attacked her and snatched her bag containing her mobile phone and other valuables.
It was on that same ill-fated day that she coincidentally ran into an old friend of her elder brother, Goodnews, who later assisted her with N200.00. They later exchanged phone numbers and she went home.

According to Jane, her family formerly lived in the Ojo Barracks because her father, Mr Anakaun Ujon Adams, was a soldier until his death on January 9, 2009. It was after her father’s death that the bereaved family relocated from the area. Her mother, Eunice, went to live in Benue while she stayed back in Lagos with her elder sister at a private residence opposite the military barracks.

It was from her residence that she went to work in Apapa, and Goodnews, the Good Samaritan, later introduced her to Mr. Akparuku, a soldier serving at the DAOP Unit of the Army Headquarters, Bonny Camp.

Jane said the soldier never asked her for love, but they related only as casual friends until Saturday, January 22, when it dawned on her that friends could be deceitful.

According to her, she was returning from work late in the evening when she saw Goodnews and Akparuku drinking in a bar located opposite the barracks with some of their friends. Jane said she joined them on invitation and was offered a bottle of malt. But, according to her, hardly had she taken a sip of the chilled drink when some boys from their neighbourhood invaded the bar to make trouble.

Goodnews, she recalled, engaged the boys in a fight and efforts made to separate them failed. She said she considered running away from the scene but when she considered it as a betrayal to a friend that invited her for a free drink, she stayed behind. In her words, when the owner of the bar requested for her money, the soldier, Akparuku, pleaded with her to accompany him to a new generation bank located inside the military barracks to collected some money from the ATM machine to offset their bill. The victim said she didn’t suspect anything and entered the bus.

The first year student of Business Administration said the fog of excitement cleared from her eyes when the soldier refused to stop at the bank. And when she confronted him to stop the vehicle, he allegedly persuaded her to follow him to his house to collect his ATM card.
“I told him to stop the vehicle, so that I would get down but he refused. He kept on speeding. But when he got to the School of Music, there was a mound of sand there. I used that opportunity to jump down from the bus. But he came down and pursued me.

I started screaming for help but he caught up with me and started kicking, hitting and dragging me back to the bus. It was at that point that he hit me on my eye and I fell down in severe pains. Some soldiers intervened at that point but he told them that I stole his N10, 000. He didn’t allow me to explain to them because he knew he was lying. He rained blows on my face, slapping me on both sides. Even those that came to help me turned around and abused me for stealing his money and ordered me to follow him,” she said.
While the beating continued, the victim said other vehicles drove past them without bothering to stop. But one man, whom she suspected to be a senior officer, stopped and ordered Mr. Akparuku to immediately take her out of the barracks.

“I told that senior officer that I wouldn’t follow him any more because he might kill me. But the man encouraged me to follow him into the bus. At that point, tears were flowing uncontrollably from my wounded eye which began swelling rapidly. It was getting darker and I could hardly see. When we entered the bus, I didn’t know what happened next until he dragged me down. He told me that we were in a burial ground, a no-go area. He pulled a dagger and threatened to stab me dead if I ever resist him. Everywhere was dark. He tore off my clothes. I refused to open my legs for him, and we started struggling again. But he was much stronger. The dagger slashed my neck. There were wounds all over my body. Then he raped me,” she said.
Jane said the furious soldier throttled her so hard that she could hardly scream. “I lay helplessly on the ground,” she recalled. She said the soldier also threatened to kidnap and keep her out of sight forever, for daring to insult him.

Jane, who said the incident left her thoroughly humiliated and debased, recalled that her alleged rapist used no condom.
“Apart from the fear of HIV/AIDS, I was even more afraid because I was in my ovulation period,” she said. “After raping me, he took me back to the bus and told me he was from the Niger/Delta and that he had kidnapped me. He said my family would never see me again. I was so afraid that I couldn’t utter a word. But when we got to a place in the barracks called Fin Niger, I saw somebody with a torch. I jumped out of the vehicle and started calling on the man to save me. At that time, I was naked but I didn’t mind. Other people came, some of them were soldiers, and they took us to the military police. They locked him up in the guardroom and took me to the military hospital. I spent three days in the hospital before the doctor referred me to a specialist hospital for the treatment of my eye,” she explained.

A medical report issued by the military hospital and made available to Daily Sun, described the incident as an assault occasioning bodily harm. But the victim is accusing the army authorities of trying to water down the rape charge so that the victim would receive light punishment.
“He raped me. He penetrated me and released his semen inside me. How can I lie and expose myself to this shame if it is not true? Even the man confessed that he did it. The doctor that examined me that night knows the truth. All I want is justice,” she said.

Jane said another lady also suffered a similar fate in the same location and was brought to the same military hospital. According to her, the lady, presumably in her early 20s, equally claimed to have been raped by unknown men at the same graveyard. Aside from having several rounds of unprotected sex, the perverts added a gory dimension to their crime by forcing an empty bottle into her private part. She spent the night unconscious in the cemetery until some passers-by took her to the military hospital. She was referred to an undisclosed specialist hospital when doctors at the barracks could do nothing to save her life, she said.
Although Jane said she was certified negative when she went for a pregnancy test, perpetual fear still gnaws at her mind, as she feels she might have contracted the dreaded HIV. She said her HIV status could only be properly diagnosed after six months.

Since the incident happened, Jane said she has been seeking legal aid, but lacks the required financial power and counsel.
Aside her financial constraints, the young lady said she is also facing constant threats from unknown persons who have vowed to deal with her for rejecting conciliatory steps engineered by the accused. According to her, a member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), warned her recently to be more careful because some people are out to silence her forever.

Daily Sun undercover reporter visited Ojo Barracks on Friday, February 12 to get more details of the sex crime. At the military duty room where the accused was detained, the detainee chart spelt out the offence of assault and rape against Lance Corporal Akparuku Clever, who was the third on the chart. The chart also had seven other soldiers charged and detained for other misdemeanours.
The reporter, in an attempt to get the details of the offence, claimed to be a relation of the victim, who has come to broker a peace deal. Looking suspiciously at the reporter, the officer on duty ordered the visitors to wait outside the office for his colleague that has the keys to the guardroom. It took some couple of minutes before the accused was brought out from his cell.

On seeing Jane, the soldier’s eyes fell as he sat down on the wooden bench in front of the office. The journalist was able to convince him that the family of the victim had finally agreed to settle the case. The bait caught the suspect. He sounded remorseful as he reeled out his confession. He pleaded with the victim to name her price in order to save his career. He argued that his detention in cell had done either party no good, moreso as his commercial bus had been impounded by the authorities. It was while the soldier was pleading with the victim to withdraw the case that the reporter stealthily took his photograph, a Herculean task because of the presence of other soldiers.

Akparuku, with Force Number 03NA/63/197, disclosed that he was a native of Bayelsa State, a married man with five children. His pregnant wife, he said, was almost due and had travelled home with the children shortly after the incident for the burial of her grandmother.
Looking downcast and unkempt, Akparuku said misfortunes had been trailing him from his village since he took his danfo bus home. The army authorities, he noted, had since confiscated the bus which the victim alleged was used to abduct her.

Akparuku claimed it was not in a graveyard that the incident happened and denied any plan to use the victim for rituals. But the victim, who had been playing along to enable the reporter get details of the case, lost her temper and shouted him down for being economical with the truth. To keep the accused in high spirits, the journalist promised to prevail on the victim to withdraw her case entirely from the military police so that he would be released from the guardroom.
At the Ojo Military Police office, the reporter also met the Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant Colonel, W.F. David, who assured the victim that investigations were on-going. Although he declined giving details of the action the military would take against the accused, one of the investigators said the accused would never go unpunished.

Efforts made to get official comments of the Nigerian Army failed. When the reporter contacted one of the commanding officers at the cantonment, one Captain Sanni, he said he was not aware of the incident since it happened outside his unit. According to him, there were about 14 units in the Army, which makes it difficult for him to know what happened in other units.

Also, the spokesman for Brigade 9 of the Nigerian Army, Lagos, Captain Olaolu Daudu, said he was not aware of the incident but assured that since the accused was still in military custody, the matter would be properly investigated.
However, the victim said her wounds would continue to fester unless the Army authorities heed her cry for justice. She said her tears would continue to flow until the man who subjected her to such physical, psychological and emotional torture earns his deserved punishment.
Will Miss Jane Adams ever receive justice? The whole world waits.

OMG! Mercy Johnson Tells Mike Ezuronye "fcuk YOU!"

So I used to think this Mercy Johnson of a girl is a responsible homely girl, but unfortunately I just found out that she is one of the few girls that give ladies bad name!!

What you are about to read is the synopsis of what transpired between mike and mercy on a movie set in eastern Nigeria on sunday febuary 20,2011.

I would suggest you read this with someone and both of you play mercy and mike in order to understand this true life script better.

Ready?.....Here goes!

''The whole movie set had waited for about two hours with mike also waiting but lead actress mercy johnson who is enjoying the 'attention' of some particular producers was nowhere to be found.several attempts were made to call her to come to set but she wouldnt pick her call and those trying to reach her gave up the attempt and the whole set waited and waited......and waited and waited.

Finally mercy breezed into the set and before anyone could say a word she vanished for a few hours again and the waiting game began again. Finally she showed up un-apologetic and after a while exchanged a few hardsh words with the continuity manager who she threatened she would slap his ears off if he tried her.
Mike Ezeruonye and the producer on set approached mercy and told her to take it easy and mike even told her ''mercy you used to be very humble, what happened to you?please dont let this stardom thing get to your head, its really not worth it''.

According to eye witness report, that moment passed and when it was time to run their script lines, mercy refused entirely to join mike and insisted on running her lines from inside where she was seated, the producer begged and begged but mercy refused to move and after a few frustrated attempts, mike dropped his script and said he could not work like that and that when mercy was ready to run her lines they should call him.he was really upset as he stormed out and lo and behold, mercy who refused to come out all these while ran out after mike and screamed  behind him the words ''fcuk YOU''.
silence enveloped the venue as everyone dropped what they were doing with mouths formed ''O''
''Mike stopped in his tracks, retraced his steps and asked her
''excuse me?''
mercy replied''you heard me,fcuk you.you can do your worst''.
Mike ezeruonye shocked to his bones, asked the actress
''i beg your pardon, what did you say''?

Mercy replies again''I said fcuk you.who do you think you are''?

The able bodied men on the set immediately came between them and mike was physically restrained from going near mercy who  empited a bile of swear words on mike.

Mike stormed off the set and refused to come back to run any lines with the actress.

''The actress has been asked to apologise to mike who is her elder in nollywood but so far so good she has not done so,she is perhaps waiting for the media hype that will follow her actions and then she will publicly go on her knees to beg mike and earn the term''shes such a humble actress and will not even hesistate to go on her knees and beg when she wrongs anyone''.

Face Front Concepts Mike Ezeruonyes management team  headed by Mildred Okwo was contacted after  several attempts to contact the actor failed and this is her response
''Thanks for your inquiry. Our client Mike values his colleagues who act in a professional manner. It is his belief that "every actor must respect the director and people on set and he will not stand for actors who cannot check their egos". Mike is still deciding how to address the incident and we will put out a release at the appropriate time''.

Mike ezeruonye is one of the many Alist actors that have suffered ''insultive casualities'' in the hands of mercy johnson...one of her victims and older colleague ngozi ezeonu was so badly tongue lashed on set by mercy  that nogzi would rather ''run into a moving train than act alongside the actress again''.

In 2010 actress Patience ozokwor forgave mercy and played a mother figure by publicly accepting the actress' public apology.....

If  you Call the name mercy johnson amongst the Alist actors  everyone starts heading home.
One nollywood celebrity who pleaded anonymity says''acting with mercy is a no go area for me,she is talented but i guess fame got to her head''.

Whilst we beg on Mikes and Mercys Management teams to come out with their own revised and remodelled  version ......heres wondering who will be mercys next victim!.

A 55-year-old man, identified as Udo Ubom, aka, Anansa, from Ikot Obong village, in Essien Itiaba, Nsit Atai Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, weekend, butchered his ex-wife, and thereafter turned himself over to the police.

Anansa, a  Bakassi returnee, it was gathered, killed the former wife, (name withheld), in broad daylight for allegedly having an affair with another man, a former friend of his, whose nickname was given as Obong Ekpe, before the two love birds, parted ways when things took a funny twist.

Close sources said efforts by relatives to get the randy lady to go back to her former husband  proved abortive.

Anansa who had reported the unfaithfulness of the wife to family members and friends in the community, it was gathered, on the fateful day was attending the burial of a certain man in the community, when he saw his former friend hand in hand with the unfaithful wife.  Fight broke out between the two jealous lovers but they were separated.

Luck ran out of the woman, when the Bakassi returnee, quickly went for his neatly sharpened matchet and cut the wife into parts.

Meanwhile a 30 year-old woman, Miss Martha  Usoro, who was bathed with acid, by the former lover is one of the many victims of valentine tragedy, now receiving treatment in the hospital.

Martha, a native of Ukana Ikot Akpa Inyang, in Essien Udium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is now in serious pains at the cottage hospital, Ukana Ikot Ntuen after being bathed with acid.

NA WAOOOO : 19 year old Lady Addicted To Eating Soap (Photos)

It's the toxic compulsion that doctors claim could kill her.
But this 19-year-old girl claims she is hopelessly addicted... to eating soap.
A rare medical condition has left Tempestt Henderson, from Florida, eating up to five bars of soap a week - and washing powder too.
My bizarre compulsion: Tempestt Henderson, 19, says she is addicted to eating soap - and can go through five bars a week
'It tasted so sweet, and salty': Tempestt claims that the first time she ate washing powder, it just felt right

'I remember the first time I dipped my fingers into the washing powder,' she said.

'I dabbed the powder onto my tongue and it tasted so sweet, and salty…it just felt so right. I was hooked straight away.'

The nursing student says she knew eating soap was dangerous, but ignored the warning labels on the box in favour of licking the deadly powder daily, from the minute she woke up in the morning.

Soon she had moved onto licking the bubbles of soap in the shower, too, a habit that was getting her through up to five bars of soap a week.

'In the shower, I like to lather up a green bar of soap, and lick the bubbles. And as the soap disintegrates, I pop a tiny amount of the soap into my mouth and suck it. It’s heavenly.

When you can't stop: Doctors have diagnosed Tempestt with a rare disorder called PICA, characterised by an appetite for substances that are non-nutritive

'I love the clean feeling it gives me. Eating soap feels so much cleaner than just washing with it.'

After six months of eating soap, unhappy Tempestt decided to be brave and seek medical advice. She was diagnosed with a rare disorder called PICA, which doctors told her is characterised by an appetite for substances that are largely non-nutritive.

Sufferers have been known to compulsively eat metal, coins, chalk, batteries and even toothbrushes. It can often be caused by a mineral deficiency, which explains why pregnant women often crave eating coal when needing iron.

But in Tempestt’s case doctors believed the condition was bought on by stress.

Things got really stressful for me when my boyfriend, Jason, split up with me and left for college,' she admitted.

'He told me he was going to college in Kansas to study business. I begged him to give the long distance relationship a go, but he told me it was over. I was devastated.'

When Tempestt herself had to leave for college, hundreds of miles away from her family home in Florida, things took a turn for the worse.
College was five hours away from my family, and the stress got bigger. With no boyfriend and my family miles away, I got lonely, sad and depressed. I turned to bath soap and laundry detergent and my problem got increasingly worse.'

Dr Barton Blinder, the world’s authority on PICA, says that eating soap in these quantities could seriously affect Tempestt’s health:.

'With soap, the worry is the problems associated with ingesting toxic chemicals, which are typically alkaline but there are other toxic substances in soap.

'These can damage someone's metabolism and cause digestive problems. With soap, you're also concerned about the acid-base balance of the blood.'

But for Tempestt, therapy got to the bottom of her addiction to soap, and the cause of her PICA.

'I always knew I loved the smell of washing detergent,' she explained.

'I remember the brand my Mum always used to use - I remember the smell vividly, it was the smell of her cardigan when she hugged me, and the smell of my bed sheets as a child.

'I used to love smelling the powder, but when life got so stressful I found only eating the soap would help.

'It is an addiction, I can’t stop, and I have sought the help of a doctor who specialises in addiction. The doctor told me I must empty my house of all washing detergent and soap, anything that triggers my addiction.'

Psychologists have said that Tempestt most likely turned to soap eating as a comforting coping mechanism when she found herself away from her family.

'We use liquid at home now,' she said, 'and for some reason I’ve got no need to eat that.'

The doctor gave Tempestt intensive Cognitive-behavioral therapy, or CBT, to give her replacement thoughts that will prevent her from compulsively reaching for soap.

'I’m learning to think about positive things when I feel I need to eat soap,' she said.

She has also been encouraged to go for long walks, avoiding places where soap is present, like bathrooms and laundrettes.

She added: 'Doctors have encouraged me to talk about my issues, because they think my addiction is caused by me bottling things up.'

And for the teenager who used to take not one, not two, but three bottles of soap into the shower, she hasn’t eaten soap since September 2010.

When her mother found out about her daughter’s addiction, she ordered Tempestt to return home from college. It may have been a smart move as Tempette admitted: 'I just couldn’t face being back there, alone, with a campus full of soap.'

Today, she faces a long road of recovery, but says she hopes she’ll never have to eat soap ever again.

'I suppose my Mum is secretly relieved that I was addicted to soap,' she admited, 'and not dangerous drugs or something.'

How neighbour raped my daughter, narrates father of 5-year-old

IT is said that appearances, at times, could be very deceitful because one cannot know the intention of the next person, not even a person related by blood. Little wonder it has been agreed that one’s best friend could turn out to be his worst enemy. That was the situation with Yusseini Mohammed, a mobile policeman in Bauchi State who is still finding it difficult to believe that his neighbour that he once had confidence in, Mustapha, a herbalist, could be so heartless as to rape his five year old daughter in spite of the closeness between both families. They had lived together peacefully for years before the bizarre incident.

According to him, Mustapha looked harmless, not knowing that behind that harmless looking disposition was the devil incarnate. In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Yusseini broke down and in between sobs, he said, “Each time I look at my daughter Hairatu, I cry. This is an innocent girl who used to go to Mustapha’s house to play with his children. How could a grown up man of over 40 years defile a small girl like that,” he said as the tears rolled down his cheeks.

Worst still, is the fear by Yusseini that with the way the case is dragging on, Mustapha might go scot-free after sexually assaulting his little daughter and taking away her innocence.

The worried father said, “All I want is justice. This man is sick.  He deserves to be in prison,”. He appealed for justice from the authorities involved in handling the case which he took to court in a bid to ensure that the accused paid for his crime and  that Mustapha be put behind bars.

Yussieni, a police constable, explained that since May 2010 last year, when his daughter was defiled by the herbalist in the Wuntin Dada area of Bauchi Metropolis where they live with Mustapha as neighbours, the case had been dragging on with no sign that he would get justice.

In an interview with newsmen in Bauchi, Yusseini lamented that the suspect, Mustapha, had sold his house and belongings and allegedly relocated while his whereabouts remain unknown few days after he committed the heinous crime.

According to Yussieni., “He was in court only twice and he is always being represented by his lawyer.  The case has been transferred from a Chief Magistrate Court to a High Court in Bauchi adding that, “On the 26th of this month, we will be at the High Court and I hope that Mustapha would be in court.”

He added that on the D-Day, the suspect was once again not in court and this time, the judge was very furious and ordered the lawyers to ensure that he is brought to court unfailingly on the 14th of February.

Will he show up? Has he suddenly disappeared into thin air? These are some of the questions that agitate Yusseini’s mind even as he disclosed to our correspondent that his wife is yet to recover from the shock of what happened to their daughter.

Yusseini was extremely disappointed that Mustapha was not in court for the eleventh time, expressing regret that somebody who could defile a five year old girl is still being allowed to roam the street freely.

Narrating his ordeal, the visibly traumatised father lamented: “I was with my neighbour when my wife called me on phone that something was amiss in my house. When I got home, I saw my daughter with blood in her private part, and she was crying. I asked her what happened and she told me that Baba Sani (Mustapha) removed her pant and did something to her.”

The aggrieved father also said that he reported the matter at the GRA police station and Mustapha was  arrested and instead of being remorseful and  regretful, Mustapha tried to talk him into settlement without involving the Police.

“He was pleading that we should settle but I refused. I told him to settle with the police.  The case was transferred to the State CID and he was detained but was later released on bail and since then, we have not set eyes on him".

“I was told that he had sold his house and left the area. We had to relocate from the area after what happened.”
Yusseini is appealing to the authorities to ensure that justice was done saying that his daughter suffered physical and psychological damage saying that, "She couldn’t eat and for so many days she was bleeding through the nose. I feel very bad about what happened to my daughter because it has affected her seriously.”

Efforts to get the accused did not succeed as he was said to have relocated. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Barau when contacted, said that since the case was before the court he could not make any comment about it but assured that the case would be followed to its logical conclusion based on the provisions of the relevant laws of the land.
